Ms. Joyce Wanderi – Maina is currently the Chief Operating Officer of PS Kenya  with over 10 years’ experience in social marketing and private sector marketing. Her experience inncludes over 7 years in public health managing large scale national health programs in Maternal and Child Health, Malaria, Reproductive Health and HIV. Her role includes providing strategic direction, health program development, technical oversight and managing a team of over 100 staff. In the last 5 years she led the scale up of social franchising to what is now a countrywide Tunza franchise offering quality integrated services. Her expertise also extends to health financing, strategic planning, marketing planning, social behavior change communication, brand development and performance improvement facilitation.

She is a founder member of the International Social Marketing Association and country lead for the AHME project, a multi country 5 year project addressing service delivery, demand side financing and policy issues in the private sector.

Specific contribution in the health sector include coauthoring a tool kit for policy makers and service providers on Mainstreaming Emergency Contraceptives in developing countries; consultation in the development of a global communication strategy for WHO on communicating sensitive topics in SRH specifically on HIV and hormonal methods; facilitation of a public – private sector forum towards FP commodity security in the country and facilitating the formation of a consortium of social franchises in Kenya, ASFH.

 lawrence Dr. Lawrence Mbae – Vice Chair

Dr. Lawrence Mbae, the Director of Gold Star Kenya is a medical doctor and public health specialist with experience in managed health care, public health management, social franchise design and management. As the Director, the Board of Directors have bestowed on him, the responsibility of day to day management of the organization to ensure growth through implementation of the strategic plan to achieve the organization’s  vision. Lawrence ensures that GS Kenya remains a viable business model that addresses the health needs of the communities it reaches as well as remaining a preferred partner for donors and other implementing partners.

Lawrence leads a strong program, technical and administration team to the current GS Kenya program portfolio that includes:

  • Gold Star Network (GSN) –  A franchised care model incorporating high quality health initiatives through the private Sector
  • Most at Risk Populations (MARPS)
  • Workplace HIV AIDS prevention interventions.

Prior to joining Gold Star Kenya in April 2013,Lawrence worked at Population Services International/Kenya where he served as the deputy director for clinical services where he was instrumental in the growth of one of the flagship projects, Tunza Family Health Network.

  Dr. Isaac N. Theuri – Treasurer

Dr. Isaac Theuri is the Senior Coordinator for the Amua social franchise network at Marie Stopes Kenya. He is an experienced medical doctor and certified accountant with six years’ experience in the private health sector and insurance industry.
His key role at Marie Stopes Kenya is to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the delivery of a channel of work by generating couple year’s protection (CYPs) through provision of family planning services and other stakeholder deliverables, through AMUA Social Franchise Network. He currently oversees over 400 Amua Clinics countrywide.
Marie Stopes Kenya is an NGO registered in Kenya and affiliated to Marie Stopes International. MSI provides quality sexual and reproductive health care and family planning to millions of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable women. MSI’s mission is to make sure that women have a choice when it comes to their reproductive health and are able to have children by choice, not chance.
Prior to joining MSK in May 2014 Dr. Isaac Theuri worked at Viva Afya Ltd as the Chief Medical Officer and Quality Assurance Manager.

  Mr. Michael Kamiru

Michael Kamiru is the current operations manager for Sustainable Healthcare Foundation, a Non-Government Organization that runs the CFW Franchised Clinics in Kenya. Currently, the network has 65 clinics distributed in Western, Nairobi and Central regions.

Michael holds a BSc in Biomedical Science and Technology from Egerton University, a graduate diploma in project planning and management from Kenya Institute of Management and recently enrolled for an MBA at the University of Nairobi. Previously, he was the CEO at Human Quality Assessment Services (HUQAS)-a Kenyan registered NGO offering Proficiency testing Services and Training to research and diagnostic laboratories in East Africa.

He has also worked as a product consultant for a leading medical supplies company in Nairobi as well as a quality assurance microbiologist at a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Kenya.

 monica Ms. Monica Oguttu

Ms. Oguttu is the founding Executive Director of Kisumu Medical & Education Trust (KMET), an NGO founded in 1995 to expand access for comprehensive Reproductive Health services in the rural and hard to reach communities in Kenya.  Through her initiative, a network of health providers has been created in an effort to expand access to integrated maternal health care in rural communities. The network is linked with trained community based health workers who create demand for the services. This network was recently branded as a Social Health franchise – The Hunduma Poa Health Network with the slogan, ‘quality health care for all’

She is a renowned reproductive health specialist with experience in sexual and reproductive health service delivery, program management and policy and legal reform. She has provided technical support to a number of countries to strengthen their health systems in a number of ways, including development of service delivery standards and guidelines, health-worker training, operations research, and advocacy for legal and policy reform for the improvement of service delivery through task shifting/sharing.

Prior to the current post, she managed a busy maternity unit at Kenyatta National Teaching and Referral Hospital doubling as an Honorary Lecturer at the dept. of Advanced Nursing – Nairobi University.
